Find out more about Genetec AutoVu – advanced ANPR system

October 26, 2010

Genetec’s powerful AutoVu ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) system is now available from Controlware UK. Find out the main benefits Security Center can provide below.

Unsurpassed Accuracy

AutoVu has some of the highest accuracy rates in the industry when it comes to license plate reads. You can rely on the AutoVu solution to capture vehicles within the camera’s field of view. Thanks to AutoVu’s Fuzzy Matching feature, you can ensure that license plates are correctly identified. You won’t miss a beat with AutoVu.

IP Connectivity

Having an IP-ready solution means you get real-time monitoring and identification of vehicles. You don’t have to wait to find out if a wanted vehicle is approaching your building or city. Data is wirelessly transferred over an IP network so you can take immediate action if a vehicle of interest is spotted.

User-Friendly

As part of Genetec’s unified security platform, the Security Center, AutoVu is very user-friendly. Use graphical maps to monitor hits and read locations. Click on a hit to display an image of the license plate, a color image of the vehicle as well as the date, time and location. And use the easy search function to enable quick investigations.

Easy to Install and Configure

Installing AutoVu is easy. Once the AutoVu Sharp cameras are up, you need minimal adjustments and configuration to get your system working. Your databases of wanted vehicles can be uploaded daily or automatically on a pre-set basis. It’s a simple three-step process: install you cameras, configure your system and upload your list.

Genetec unified security platform Security Center selected by New Jersey schools

October 20, 2010
The New Jersey Paramus Public Schools have installed Genetec’s unified security platform, the Security Center, at all eight of its school campuses. It was important to Paramus to select an all-in-one system like Genetec’s Security Center, which provides one interface for both video surveillance and access control. Using an IP system was ideal as it has allowed security data to be shared between campuses over the network, and has saved Paramus considerable cabling costs.

Paramus preserved a few previously existing analogue cameras using IP encoders, and purchased over 100 new Panasonic IP cameras to complete the system. A Dell server was provided to each school, allowing video and security data to be stored locally to maximize network efficiency. Currently, Omnicast video surveillance and Synergis access control data can be viewed by authorised personnel located at each of the eight campuses.Additionally, Paramus recently rebuilt the entrance to the high school, incorporating a new security control room for the entire district. Staffed security guards will manage the unified security platform spanning all eight campuses from this central location. The Security Center will also allow direct access to police and emergency services to allow for a quick response should the need ever arise. For now, Paramus uses the video surveillance system of the Security Center, Omnicast, mainly as an investigative tool. They can pull archived video to discover who committed an act of vandalism or theft, definitively prove “who started what” to parents, and more. Paramus also uses Omnicast to enhance emergency procedures and crowd control, evaluating the possibility of a fire code violation by monitoring the number of people at an event.

The access control system of the Security Center, Synergis, allows the schools to programme doors to remain unlocked on schedule while students are arriving, and to be locked down once classes have begun. Paramus was also able to use Synergis to configure cardholder groups including everything from full access cards for emergency responders, to cards provided to PTA members which only work during meeting times. Paramus is even able to provide non-access cards to community members who use the campus track recreationally. This helps Paramus monitor access to each campus, keeping cardholder information and pictures on file.

The Security Center is a highly flexible platform, and Paramus chose it in part because it is a solution that can evolve with their needs. They are currently in the process of implementing a backup system on a ninth server, and are also actively working on providing the police department with full access to their network so that officers can aide in remote monitoring. Further down the road, providing access cards to students will enable eventual integration with the library card system and cafeteria POS system for lunch purchases.

Robert Autorino, Director of Buildings and Grounds, said, “It was important to use a company that was established and reliable. Genetec’s Security Center has been fantastic. Where my previous system had upgrade glitches that caused downtime, Genetec’s system has had seamless upgrades and no downtime. Now I have people from other districts coming to look at the system because they’re interested in switching over as well.”

Richard Adams, Consultant at Let’s Think Wireless, the Genetec certified integrator for this project, said “I have the opportunity to do business with almost any company, but I choose Genetec. They are constantly working to improve their products, they have a great support staff, and in general, we rarely have service issues with Genetec products – the systems work, they perform.”

City wide solution, CCTV security surveillance for Ipswich

July 20, 2009

The advanced surveillance soluion includes cameras, IP codec’s and networked recording all managed by the powerful Cware management platform. CCTV operators monitor real-time video and search archive recordings from 185 cameras that cover businesses, public parks, transportation links and residential areas 24 hours per day.

Cware enables the use of new compression methods such as H.264 that provide higher video quality for faster identification of suspects. Cware also makes surveillance easier for operators and delivers some key advantages including the opportunity to integrate CCTV, Video Analytics and Access Control systems together in one platform.

The continued investment in advanced IP CCTV technology by Ipswich City Council illustrates their commitment to help reduce crime and the fear of crime, creating a safer living environment for all.

IP CCTV can deliver huge benefits over analogue systems

June 24, 2009

Here are some reasons why….

Improved video quality
IP CCTV solutions support far greater image quality through Megapixel and High Density (HD) technologies that deliver higher frame rates. This enables CCTV to be of high enough quality to clearly capture an incident in progress and therefore identify the persons involved and if necessary bring in law enforcement agencies in order to prosecute with confidence.

Future Proofing
By deploying an IP CCTV solution future proofing can be achieved by enabling integration and support for new technologies and applications such as H.264, HD, Megapixel cameras, proximity access control and identification, Video Analytics, Facial Recognition and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR). Integration with these technologies enables CCTV to be extended to provide an additional level of security for traffic monitoring, parking, and access control applications.

Linking CCTV with Access Control technology can deliver real benefits. For example in a school a single card could be used for students and staff for access to secure areas, library card identification, time and attendance records and cashless vending. CCTV images can be linked to Access Control records so that in the event of crimes such as vandalism, pilfering or identity theft rather than simply having a database you have a visual image to quickly identify if the access records are correct and also avoid any rebuttal from potential suspects.

Secure access remote access enables an IP based solution to be monitored from anywhere not just in a central control room. Using the integrated intelligence of IP based solutions automated audio response and alarm escalation out of hours can also be achieved as well as incorporation of help points and streaming video to mobile phones.

Cost savings
• IP based surveillance typically has a lower total cost of ownership than traditional CCTV due to the application of recent technological advances.

• CAT 5 structured cabling reduces installation costs.

• Taking advantage of PoE technology means fewer cables need to be run to cameras than traditional cabling and resilience can be increased through the use of Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS).

• Latest recording compression standards such as H.264 also provide a saving of up to 75% capacity over traditional analogue solutions whilst maintaining high quality video recordings.
